Table of car recalls
10/1/2025 BMW |
BMW is recalling more than 145,000 vehicles in the U.S. over a starter defect that could overheat and spark a fire, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced. The latest recall comes just days after nearly 200,000 cars were recalled for a similar issue. The NHTSA warned that engine protection material near an overheated starter could ignite. "After repeated attempts, the starter motor may overheat from an electrical overload," the NHTSA said. "An overheated starter motor can ignite nearby combustible material in the engine compartment, increasing the risk of a fire."
The auto safety regulator said the notice affects certain 2019-2025 vehicles across 6 models across North America: certain 2020 340I, X6, 2020-2025 840I, 2020-2022 740LI, 2019-2020 X7, and X5 vehicles. BMW dealers will replace the engine starter with a different design free of charge, NHTSA said. |
9/29/2025 BMW |
Over 196,000 BMW owners are being told to park outside due to a risk of fire that is present whether the cars are being driven or not. The risk, publicized by the NHTSA on Friday, is for owners of model years 2019-22. "Owners should park outside and away from buildings and other vehicles until they either confirm their vehicle is not subject to the recall or have their vehicle remedied," the notice reads.
The engine starter relay may corrode, leading to overheating and short circuit, increasing the risk of a fire, the NHTSA said. The issue affects multiple models, including the 2019-2022 Z4, 2019-2021 330I, 2020-2022 X3, 2020-2022 X4, 2020-2022 530I, 2021-2022 430I (standard and convertible), and 2022 230I, as well as the BMW-made Toyota Supra. BMW dealers will replace the engine starter free of charge. The NHTSA also said drivers can stay informed on current recalls by using its SaferCar app. |
9/8/2025 Chrysler |
Chrysler parent company Stellantis is recalling more than 91,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee hybrids in the U.S. due to a software malfunction that may result in a loss of drive power, the NHTSA said on Thursday. Some Jeep Grand Cherokee Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles, model years 2022 through 2026, may have an overloading of the battery pack control module microprocessor, causing it to reset. When this happens, the hybrid control processor can misinterpret signals from the battery pack control module — potentially resulting in a loss of drive power. Of the 91,787 possibly affected vehicles, only 1%, or around 918 of them, are believed to have the defect, according to the NHTSA website.
In a similar announcement earlier this year, the NHTSA said Stellantis was recalling more than 63,000 Jeep Cherokees, with model years 2017 through 2019, due to issues with the vehicles' power transfer units. In Nov., Stellantis announced it was indefinitely laying off more than 1,000 employees at its Jeep assembly plant in Ohio as the automaker significantly reduced its inventory levels to match demand. |
9/5/2025 Toyota, Subaru, and Lexus |
A recall has been issued for thousands of Toyota, Subaru, and Lexus vehicles due to problems with their heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. In a recall notice the NHTA noted that Toyota’s parent company, which owns Lexus and a part of Subaru, detected some of its vehicles in the model years 2023 to 2025 may have defective HVAC systems. The NHTSA added in the notice that these systems may have electrical compressor failure, which may cause the defroster or defogger to not work, raising the risk of a crash. |
8/27/2025 GM |
General Motors has recalled more than 23,000 Chevrolet Corvettes in response to a fuel leak issue linked to multiple reported fires. The recall was initiated after officials found that excess fuel could spill into the vehicles' fuel-filler pocket during refueling and potentially leak onto an ignition source, increasing the risk of fire. In vehicles equipped with a left-side radiator/fan combination, the vehicle’s fuel-filler pipe and associated fuel-filler pocket (the recessed area containing the fuel-filler pipe) are positioned above a radiator surface and a cooling fan. If excess fuel is spilled into the fuel-filler pocket (particularly in cases where the refueling hose fails to automatically shut off as designed) and leaks from the pocket onto the radiator surface while the cooling fan is running, the cooling fan may draw the leaked fuel through the radiator, vaporize the fuel into the engine compartment, and expose the fuel vapor to an ignition source. The recall applies to 2023 to 2026 Corvette models. |
8/19/2025 Ford, Nissan |
Specific model Range Rovers, Ford vehicles, and Nissans were among over 300,000 vehicles recalled in the notice.
Land Rover (121,509) recalled certain 2014-2017 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles due to a suspension knuckle that can crack, which can cause the suspension arm to detach. Ford (103,174) issued a recall for certain 2023-2025 F-150 trucks because the vehicles may have a rear axle hub bolt that can wear down and break. These trucks feature the Trailer Tow Max Duty package and a 9.75-inch heavy-duty axle with a 3/4 float axle design. The recall notice says a broken hub bolt could cause damage to the axle hub splines that could cause the vehicle to roll away. Ford has recalled certain 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsair vehicles (41,875) because the rearview camera display may show a distorted image or no image at all. Corrosion on the rearview camera harness and connector may cause the display to have an occasional rearview video image, no rearview video image, or blurry, foggy, or hazy image quality. Ford issued a recall for certain 2025 Mustang, Mustang Mach E and 2025 Lincoln Nautilus cars (21,765) because the headlights on the vehicles could fail. The LED Driver Modules in the vehicles might contain a burnt diode, which may cause the low-beam and high-beam headlights, daytime running lights, front position lights and front turn signals to fail. On Lincoln Nautilus cars, the burnt diode might cause the rear taillight, rear turn signal and rear position light to fail. Nissan issued a recall for certain 2025 Frontier cars (13,719) because of a software logic error in the engine control module. this error may cause the daytime running lights to dim unexpectedly when the idle start-stop feature cycles the engine from off to on. The lamps dim for 0.3 seconds each time the error happens, before returning to normal. |
8/4/2025 Kia |
Kia America issued 2 recall notices within a week for more than 300,000 vehicles over loose parts near the doors and windows that can fall off and pose a potential hazard to other drivers.
The recalls affect 201,149 Telluride models from 2023 to 2025 over faulty door belt moldings and 100,063 K5 models from 2023 to 2025 over window trim detachment issues, according to two separate July 28 notices from the NHTSA. The recalled Telluride models may experience loosening and eventual detachment of its door belt molding trims – the long, narrow strip located along the top edge of the vehicle’s door where the glass window meets the metal frame of the door. The K5 models recalled may also experience the same issue with its C-pillar garnish face plates – decorative panels located near the left and right rear windows. Due to a supplier quality issue, the C-pillar garnish face plate and door belt molding face plate "may progressively delaminate and become loose from the base of the molding," Kia North America Safety Office said in additional notices posted on July 29. |
8/2/2025 Ford |
Ford is recalling over 312,120 vehicles due to an issue with its power brake assist, according to the NHTSA. The Lincoln Navigator, F-150, Expedition, Bronco and Ranger vehicles are impacted by the recall.
The auto regulator said the Electronic Brake Booster (EBB) module may lose power while someone is driving, which can extend the stopping distance and increase the risk of a crash. If the module malfunctions when the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems features, which are smart safety features in a car that help the driver avoid accidents, are on, it can also result in the vehicle not braking as expected, which would also increase the risk of a crash. To fix the issue, the regulator said the software needs to be updated over-the-air (OTA) or by a dealer. Both ways are free of charge. |
7/2/2025 Nissan |
Nissan issued a recall of 443,899 vehicles because of engine failure. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the automaker discovered a possible manufacturing problem in some engine parts in cars. The agency projects that 1.2% of all the recalled cars have this defect. |
6/27/2025 GM |
General Motors is recalling 62,468 vehicles because of a brake pressure issue that might cause fires. A letter from the NHTSA noted that a brake pressure sensor assembly in these cars could leak brake fluid into the brake pressure switch and cause a short circuit. The NHTSA warned in the memo that an electrical short in the brake pressure switch could overheat the circuit and raise the risk of a fire while driving or parked. The recall covers 2019 to 2024 Chevrolet Silverado models in 4500 HD, 5500 HD, and 6500 HD, General Motors told the NHTSA in a June 25 memo. |
6/25/2025 Ford |
Ford Motor Company is recalling more than 130,000 Lincoln Aviator SUVs in the U.S. due to a possible risk of parts detaching while driving, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Tuesday.
The recall, which affects 132,914 Lincoln Aviator models between the years of 2020 and 2025, is due to possible insufficient adhesive bonding of the C-pillar trim and rear door window bars. This may lead parts to detach from the affected vehicles and could "increase the risk of a crash," according to a report from the NHTSA. "The components may detach due to inadequate application pressure of the components during assembly at the supplier facility that results in insufficient adhesive retention," as noted in the report. Around 3.2% of the recalled vehicles may have the defect, the NHTSA noted. |
6/19/2025 Honda |
Honda issued a recall for more than 259,000 cars related to a brake pedal problem. The recall covers specific model Honda Pilots made between 2023 and 2023 and Acura cars built between 2021 and 2025. Owners of these recalled vehicles can get repairs for free.
In April 2024, Honda launched an investigation into the defective brake pedal, after the automaker received a report of a car experiencing the issue. Honda later found out that improper assembly of the brake pedal pivot pin happened at a supplier's U.S. plant, which was closed. |
4/30/2025 GM |
General Motors is recalling close to 600,000 vehicles across its Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC brands because of a manufacturing defect that can cause engine failure. The automaker's recall covers certain Cadillac Escalades and Escalade ESVs; Chevrolet Silverado 1500s, Suburbans and Tahoes; as well as GMC Sierra 1500s, Yukons and Yukon XLs between model years 2021 and 2024.
Roughly 597,630 vehicles are covered by the recall, according to an April 24 notice. But the company estimates that just 3% have the defect. The NHTSA reported on their website that these vehicles share a gas engine that might have connecting rod or crankshaft part issues due to supplier manufacturing or quality issues. According to the agency, this can cause engine damage, and possible failure, while driving, raising crash risks. According to the NHTSA, before failure, impacted drivers may be notified of these problems through loud knocking or banging noises, the check engine light turning on and/or other driving performance issues, such as reduced propulsion. |
3/3/2025 Mercedes-Benz |
Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall for more than 20,000 vehicles over a defective braking part. Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. issued a recall for more than 60,000 Volkswagen and Audi vehicles over a gear issue. Mercedes-Benz has determined that, on the above-named models, the brake hose on the front axle might leak over time with use in hot and humid environments. Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. has determined the instrument panel in these vehicles may not properly display the transmission gear lever indicator, for their Q4 s-Tron, and the instrument panel may not properly display the transmission gear lever indicator in their ID.4. |

10/22/2024 Honda |
TORRANCE, Calif. - Honda is voluntarily recalling more than 700,000 vehicles in the U.S., due to a defective high-pressure fuel pump part that could crack and lead to possible fuel leaks. The automaker said it will offer a free inspection and, if necessary, a replacement of the fuel pump for the 2023-2025 vehicles. These cracks can grow during vehicle operations, leading to possible fuel leaks, fuel smell while idling or driving, along with the risk of fire, crash, or injury.
The list of recalled U.S. models includes the 2023-2024 Honda Accord and Accord Hybrid, the 2025 Honda Civic Sedan and Civic Sedan Hybrid and the 2023-2025 Honda CR-V Hybrid. Honda said that it has had 145 warranty claims, and no reports of injuries or deaths related to the issue from Feb. 2023 through Sept. 2024. The recall by the automaker included various 2022 through 2025 model vehicles including certain Honda Civic and Civic Type R, CR-V, HR-V and Acura Integra and Integra Type S vehicles. Honda said it had received 10,328 warranty claims related to the issue since 2021. Honda’s recall also covered 240,000 vehicles in Canada and 58,000 in Mexico. |
8/2/2024 Hyundai |
More than 49,700 Hyundai Santa Fe and Sante Fe HEV SUVs are being recalled in America in response to a problem that can potentially affect the function of their airbags. Production of the recalled gas-powered Santa Fe SUVs in the U.S. occurred between late Dec. 2023 and mid-July of this year, according to the NHTSA. Meanwhile, Hyundai made the affected Santa Fe HEVs in a nearly 20-week span this year.
The recalled SUVs, could potentially experience "illumination of the air bag warning light, inadvertent air bag deployment, and/or an inability to deploy the air bags during a crash" because of an issue with their main floor wire harness, according to a recall report filed July 26 with the NHTSA. "The main floor wire harness used in the subject vehicles could become damaged due to contact with the passenger-side, second-row bench seat’s folding hinge assembly," the report explained. "There are no confirmed crashes or injuries related to this condition in the U.S. or Canada," the automaker also said. |
7/5/2024Ford | More than 30,700 Ford Mustangs are being recalled in response to a problem that could cause unintentional turning of their steering wheels, that were built between Sept. 15, 2022, and April 5, 2023.
"A steering wheel that turns unintentionally can cause a loss of vehicle control and increase the risk of a crash," the recall said. The problem has not caused any reported injuries or accidents. In the recall report, Ford linked the problem to improper calibration of the secondary digital torque sensor in the steering gear that the Michigan-based automaker can fix through a software update. Notification letters will start being sent in early Aug. Ford has offered Mustang models for 6 decades, with the iconic car having celebrated its 60th birthday in mid-April. People have purchased over 10 million of them since the model’s debut, the company said at the time. Over the 1st 2 quarters of 2024, the automaker has notched about 27,400 U.S. sales of the Mustang. |
6/7/2024 Kia |
LOS ANGELES - Kia America is recalling approximately 463,000 Telluride SUVs from the Jan. 2020-May 2024 model years amid fire hazard concerns, urging owners to park their vehicles outside and away from structures until a fire hazard is resolved.
The NHTSA reported that the front power seat motor in these Tellurides may overheat due to a stuck slide knob, potentially leading to a fire whether the vehicle is parked or being driven. Kia decided on the recall on May 29, following reports of 1 under-seat fire and 6 incidents of localized melting in the seat tilt motor between Aug. 2022 and March 2024. Fortunately, no injuries, crashes, or fatalities have been reported. The recall report indicates that a strong external impact to the front power seat side cover or seat slide knob can cause internal misalignment. Continuous operation under these conditions can lead to overheating. Drivers experiencing this issue may find themselves unable to adjust the power seat, detect a burning or melting smell, or observe smoke from beneath the seat. |
4/11/2024 Ford |
Ford recalls nearly 43,000 vehicles over fuel leaks that increase fire risk for certain 2022-2023 Bronco Sport and 2022 Escape models with 1.5-liter engines, totaling 42,652 vehicles. 12/21/2023 Honda |
NEW YORK (AP) — Honda Motor’s American arm is recalling more than 2.5 million vehicles in the U.S. due to a fuel pump defect that can increase risks of engine failure or stalling while driving.
According to documents published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the fuel pump impeller used in 2017-2020 Acura and Honda vehicles was improperly molded (15 Hondra brands and 7 Acura brands). This results in low-density impellers, which “can deform and interfere with the fuel pump body” over time, regulators said, leading to an inoperative fuel pump. If the fuel pump module doesn’t work, the car’s engine may not start or can stall while driving, the NHTSA said, increasing crash and injury risks. Honda says it has not received any crash or injury reports related to this recall to date. Earlier this week, the NHTSA and Honda also announced a recall of more than 106,000 2020-2022 CR-V hybrid vehicles due to a missing fuse on the power circuit of exterior 12-Volt battery cables. This can cause the battery cable to short circuit or overheat during a crash, regulators said. |
12/20/2023 Toyota |
Toyota Motor Co. said Wednesday it is recalling 1 million vehicles over a defect that could cause airbags not to deploy, increasing the risk of injury. The recall covers a range of Toyota and Lexus vehicles with model years from 2020 to 2022. Included in the recall are Toyota Avalons, Camrys, Highlanders, RAV4s, Siennas and Corollas, plus some hybrids of those models. The Lexus models in the recall include the ES250 seddan and the RX350 SUV, among others.
The vehicles being recalled have sensors in the front passenger seat that may have been manufactured improperly. Those sensors could potentially short circuit, causing the airbag system to not determine the occupant's correct weight and potentially not deploy in certain kinds of crashes. Toyota and Lexus dealers will inspect the OCS sensors and replace them if necessary at no cost to owners. Toyota will notify customers by the middle of Feb. 2024 if their cars are in the recall. |
12/13/2023 Tesla |
DETROIT (AP) — Tesla is recalling more than 2 million vehicles across its model lineup to fix a defective system that’s supposed to ensure drivers are paying attention when they use Autopilot. Documents posted Wednesday by U.S. safety regulators say the company will send out a software update to fix the problems.
The recall comes after a 2-year investigation by U.S. auto safety regulators into a series of crashes that happened while the Autopilot partially automated driving system was in use. Some were deadly. The recall covers nearly all of the vehicles Tesla sold in the U.S. since it activated Autopilot late in 2015. |
12/11/2023 Subaru |
Subaru has recalled multiple vehicles with the model years 2021-2023 because of a rearview image issue. The recall covers 95,830 model year 2021 Crosstreks, model year 2022 Foresters, and model year 2021-2023 Legacys, and Outbacks.
In a Nov. letter from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the agency said a defective weld may allow water to enter the inhibitor switch in these vehicles, causing it to fail. An inhibitor switch could prevent the reverse lights from illuminating and the rearview camera image from displaying, increasing a crash risk, according to the letter. Car owners with these vehicles can have the inhibitor switch replaced by a Subaru dealer free of charge. Subaru is mailing owner notification letters on Jan. 8, 2024. |
12/2/2023 BMW |
BMW is recalling a small number of SUVs in the U.S. because the driver's air bag inflators can blow apart in a crash, hurling metal shrapnel and possibly injuring or killing people in the vehicles. U.S. auto safety regulators say in documents posted Saturday that the recall covers 486 X3, X4 and X5 SUVs from the 2014 model year that are equipped with air bags made by Takata Corp. of Japan.
The recall raises questions about the safety of about 30 million Takata inflators that are under investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Most have not been recalled. Takata used volatile ammonium nitrate to create a small explosion to inflate air bags in a crash. But the chemical can deteriorate over time when exposed to high temperatures and humidity. It can explode with too much force, blowing apart a metal canister and spewing shrapnel. At least 26 people have been killed in the U.S. by Takata inflators since May 2009, and at least 30 have died worldwide including people in Malaysia and Australia. In addition, about 400 people have been injured. |
11/22/2023 Stellantis |
Automaker Stellantis on Wednesday announced a recall of more than 32,000 of its hybrid Jeep Wrangler SUVs because they pose a potential fire risk. As part of what the company described as a routine review of customer information, Stellantis determined that 8 of the hybrid Wranglers had caught fire while they were turned off and parked, and 6 of the vehicles were being charged when the fires started.
The recall covers 2021-2024 models of the Jeep Wrangler 4xe SUVs. All other Wrangler models have been deemed safe by Stellantis, which maintains its U.S. headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan. The SUVs affected by the recall can still be driven until they are fixed, but Stellantis is recommending they be parked away from buildings and not be charged until they can be repaired. The fixes involve either resetting or updating the software, or replacing the vehicle's battery pack. |

Honda is recalling nearly 250,000 vehicles in the U.S. because bearings can fail, causing the engines to stall and increasing the risk of a crash. The recall covers certain 2018 and 2019 Honda Pilot SUVs and Odyssey minivans and some 2017 and 2019 Ridgeline pickup trucks. Also affected are certain 2015 to 2020 Acura TLX cars and some 2016 to 2020 Acura MDX SUVs.
Honda says in documents posted Friday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that connecting rod bearings in the engine can wear and seize due to a manufacturing error, damaging the engines. The engines could run improperly or stall while being driven, increasing the risk of a fire, crash or injury. Owners will be notified by mail starting Jan. 2. |
10/17/2023 Ford |
The Ford Motor Co. is recalling 238,364 Explorers because the rear axle mounting bolt on some models may fracture and cause the driveshaft to disconnect. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a disconnected driveshaft can result in a loss of drive power or a vehicle rollaway if the parking brake is not applied. The recall covers model years 2020 through 2022.
NHTSA said repairs would be performed free of charge, with notification letters to owners expected to be mailed on Nov. 6, 2023. In August, the Michigan-based manufacturer recalled around 42,000 Super Duty F250 and F350 due to mechanical issue increasing the risk of a crash. |

The company says in documents posted Tuesday by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that the springs may have been installed incorrectly in production. They can detach from the vehicle while it's moving, increasing the risk of a crash and possibly creating a hazard for other drivers. |
6/7/2023 Ford |
Ford is expanding and issuing a new recall for 125,000 sport utility vehicles and trucks because engine failures may cause a fire, the automaker announced Tuesday.
The recall is an expansion from a July 2022 recall of 100,000 Escape, Corsair and Maverick trucks in the U.S., following 23 reported incidents of fire or smoke that stem from a suspected block or oil pan breach. |
6/2/2023 Ford |
DETROIT - Ford is telling owners of more than 140,000 SUVs in the U.S. to park them outside because they can catch fire even when the engines are turned off.
The company is recalling certain Lincoln MKC SUVs from the 2015 to 2019 model years. Ford says a short-circuit can develop in the 12-volt battery monitor sensor. It can overheat and cause an engine compartment fire while parked or in motion. |
5/17/2023 Stellantis |
WASHINGTON - Chrysler-parent Stellantis has recalled more than 132,000 Jeep Cherokee vehicles over the risk of fire, telling owners to park their SUVs outside in the meantime. The recall, announced on Tuesday, impacts certain model year 2014-2016 Jeep Cherokee vehicles, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.
An electrical short in the power liftgate module could lead to a vehicle fire with the ignition on or off, according to a notice from the NHTSA. The recall affects 132,099 vehicles previously repaired during a 2015 recall. |
4/4/2023 Volkswagen |
Volkswagen has recalled 143,053 of its Atlas SUVs in the U.S. because of faulty wiring in a weight sensor on the front passenger side, which can switch off the airbag when there's someone sitting there. Owners shouldn't let people ride in that seat until the problem can be corrected. The recall applies to certain model year 2018-2021 Volkswagen Atlas and model year 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport vehicles. |
3/17/2023 Ford |
Ford is recalling more than 1.5 million vehicles in the U.S. in 2 actions to fix leaky brake hoses and windshield wiper arms that can break.
The largest of 2 recalls covers nearly 1.3 million 2013 through 2018 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKX midsize cars. The company says in documents posted Friday by safety regulators that the front brake hoses can rupture and leak brake fluid. That would increase brake pedal travel and make stopping distances longer. |
5/13/2022 Mercedes |
Mercedes is warning over 292,000 customers with select ML, GL, and R-Class vehicles between the 2006 and 2012 model years to stop driving them. The German automaker said in a recall notice posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's website that moisture can accumulate and cause corrosion in the cars' brake booster housing units, potentially resulting in a vacuum leak and reduced brake performance. In rare cases of very severe corrosion, hard breaking could potentially cause mechanical damage to the brake booster, resulting in brake failure and increasing the risk of a crash. A foot-activated parking brake would still work. |
4/2/2022 Ford |
DETROIT (AP) - Ford is issuing 2 recalls covering over 737,000 vehicles to fix oil leaks and trailer braking systems that won’t work. The oil leak recall includes the 2020 through 2022 Ford Escape SUV and the 2021 and 2022 Bronco Sport SUV with 1.5-Liter engines. A housing can crack and oil can leak onto engine parts, which can create a fire hazard. |
3/18/2022 Volkswagen |
Volkswagen recalled more than 246,000 SUVs in the U.S. and Canada because faulty wiring harnesses can make them brake unexpectedly, sometimes while in traffic. Volkswagen says in documents posted Friday by The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that the recall covers certain Atlas SUVs from the 2019 through 2023 model years, as well as the 2020 through 2023 Atlas Cross Sport. |
3/10/2022 BMW |
More than 917,000 older BMW cars and SUVs in the U.S. are being recalled — many for a 3rd time — to fix an electrical short that can cause engine compartment fires. The recall, shared by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, involves several 3 Series, 5 Series, 1 Series, X5, X3, and Z4 vehicles. The model years of impacted vehicles range from 2006 through 2013. There could be an electrical short in the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve heater. As a result, it could overheat and cause a fire while driving or soon after being parked, the NHTSA said in documents posted online. |
2/8/2022 Hyundia and Kia |
Hyundai and Kia are telling the owners of nearly 485,000 vehicles in the U.S. to park them outdoors because they can catch fire even when stopped. The recalls are another in a long string of fire and engine failure problems that have dogged the companies for the past 6 years. This time the problem is contamination in the antilock brake control module that can cause an electrical short.
Affected are certain Kia Sportage SUVs from 2014 through 2016, and the 2016 through 2018 K900 sedan. Recalled Hyundais include certain 2016 through 2018 Santa Fe SUVs, 2017 and 2018 Santa Fe Sports, the 2019 Santa Fe XL and 2014 and 2015 Tucson SUVs. |
1/31/2022 Kia |
DETROIT — Kia is recalling more than 410,000 vehicles in the U.S. to fix a problem that can stop the air bags from inflating in a crash. The recall covers certain 2017-2018 Forte sedans and coupes, and 2017-2019 Sedona minivans and Soul small SUVs. The electric Soul also is included. The Korean automaker says the air bag control computer cover can contact a memory chip and damage the electrical circuit. That could stop the air bags from inflating.
Last Aug., Hyundai and Kia told owners of some of their large SUVs to park them outdoors and away from buildings after a series of fires involving trailer hitch wiring, where they recalled more than 281,000 vehicles in the U.S. because of the problem. The same problem occurred 2 months later, when Kia recalled another 72,000 older Sportage small SUVs in the U.S. and told owners to park them outdoors and away from structures after getting reports of more engine fires. |
10/5/2021 Volvo |
DETROIT - Volvo is recalling nearly 260,000 older cars in the U.S. because the front driver’s air bag can explode and send shrapnel into the cabin.
The recall is in addition to one from November of 2020, which was done after an unidentified U.S. driver was killed. The latest recall covers S80 sedans from 2001 to 2006 and S60s from 2001 through 2009. |
1/22/2021 Ford |
LOS ANGELES - Ford is being forced to recall roughly 3 million vehicles over defective air bags that have been linked to more than a dozen deaths in the U.S., costing the company approximately $610 million.
Vehicles included in the recall are the 2007 through 2011 Ford Ranger; the 2006 through 2012 Ford Fusion, Lincoln Zephyr and Lincoln MKZ; the 2006 through 2011 Mercury Milan; the 2007 through 2010 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX. Also covered are Mazda’s 2007 through 2009 B-Series small pickups. Takata used ammonium nitrate to create a small explosion to inflate air bags in a crash. But the chemical can deteriorate over time when exposed to high heat and humidity. |
12/16/2020 Honda |
DETROIT - Honda is recalling over 1.4 million vehicles in the U.S. to repair drive shafts that can break, window switches that can overheat and a software flaw.
The software recall includes 737,000 Accords from 2018 to 2020 and Insights from 2019 and 2020. A programming flaw in a control computer can cause the rear camera, turn signals and windshield wipers to malfunction. Owners will be notified in late January about when they should take their vehicles to a dealer for repairs. 2 drive shaft recalls cover 430,000 Honda Civic Hybrids from 2012, the 2007 through 2014 Honda Fit, the 2013 through 2015 Acura ILX and the 2013 through 2015 Honda Accord. They’re in 22 states where salt is used to clear roads in the winter. The drive shafts can break due to corrosion. Dealers will inspect the left and right drive shafts and replace them if needed. Parts aren’t available yet. Owners will get an initial notification in February and will be told later when to go to a dealer. About 268,000 CR-Vs from 2002 through 2006 are included in the power window switch recall. Water can get into an open driver’s window and cause an electrical short, possibly touching off a fire. It’s the 2nd recall for the same issue. The cars were recalled starting in October of 2012, but the repairs didn’t work. Honda says it has reports of 16 fires but no injuries. |
11/4/2020 Ford |
DETROIT - Ford is recalling more than 375,000 Explorer SUVs in the U.S. and Canada to fix a suspension problem that has caused 13 crashes.
The recall covers SUVs from the 2013 through 2017 model years built at Ford’s Chicago Assembly Plant from Sept. 4, 2012 to Jan. 25, 2017. They were sold or registered 22 states and six Canadian provinces where salt is used to clear roads during the winter. |
9/3/2020 Hyundai and Kia |
DETROIT - Hyundai and Kia are recalling over 500,000 vehicles in the U.S. and Canada to fix a brake fluid leak that could cause engine fires.
The recalls cover more than 440,000 Kia Optima midsize sedans from 2013 through 2015 and Kia Sorento SUVs from 2014 and 2015. Also covered are 203,000 Hyundai Santa Fe SUVs from 2013 to 2015. The affiliated automakers say brake fluid can leak inside a hydraulic control unit for the anti-lock brakes, possibly causing an electrical short that can lead to fires. In February, Hyundai recalled nearly 430,000 small cars for a similar but apparently unrelated problem. The company said water can get into the antilock brake computer, cause an electrical short and possibly an engine fire. That recall covered certain 2006 through 2011 Elantra and 2007 through 2011 Elantra Touring vehicles. The company said the electrical short could cause a fire even when the cars are turned off. Next day, announces they can be parked outside. |
7/1/2020 Volvo |
COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) - Volvo Cars said Wednesday that it is recalling nearly 2.1 million vehicles worldwide as a preventive measure after the company discovered that a steel wire connected to the front seat belts can be weakened.
The front seat belts are anchored to the car via this steel cable, press spokesman Stefan Elfstrom told Swedish public radio. “We have seen that this wire can be subject to wear and tear under special conditions,” reducing the seat belt's protection, he said, adding “this is a very rare problem.” Volvo said the recall, which is the biggest ever for the brand, “is a preventive safety recall to avoid future issues.” The Swedish carmaker said the affected models are Volvo S60, S60L, S60CC, V60, V60CC, XC60, V70, XC70, S80 och S80L manufactured between 2006 and 2019. DETROIT (AP) - Nissan is recalling over 450,000 vehicles worldwide because a brake fluid leak could cause them to catch fire. Because of the fire risk, the company is urging owners to park the vehicles outdoors and away from structures if the antilock brake light comes on for more than 10 seconds.
The recall, detailed in documents posted Friday by the U.S. government, covers the Nissan Murano SUV from 2015 through 2018, and Maxima sedans from 2016 through 2018. Also included are Infiniti QX60 and Nissan Pathfinder SUVs from 2017 through 2019. Most are in the U.S. and Canada. Nissan says an antilock brake actuator pump can leak fluid onto a circuit board, causing electrical shorts and fires. It’s Nissan’s 3rd recall for the same problem, and the company keeps expanding the number of affected models. About 120,000 U.S. vehicles were recalled in 2016, and Nissan issued a recall for 215,000 in 2018. A fire in a 2016 Maxima touched off the 1st recall, according to government documents.
